On February 21, the 1st Coordination Meeting of the DIGECP project was held, led by the Forgender Seal association (Barcelona) and the company INDA Iniciatives, S. L. (A Coruyaa), with the co-financing of the European Union within the framework of its commitment to equality and sustainable development.
The DIGECP project establishes a certification standard designed in accordance with municipal competences, state regulations and international treaties on gender equality and human rights. Through an evaluation and certification process, municipalities will be able to obtain the Gender Equality Distinction, which will allow them to access resources and visibility as administrations committed to gender equity.
Thanks to the European funds allocated to the project, municipalities participating in the certification process will receive financial support to develop the necessary actions required to obtain the badge.
The DIGECP Distinction’s main objective is to guarantee the integration of a gender perspective in municipal policies in a transversal and intersectional way, thereby contributing to the effectiveness of women’s rights and the well-being of all citizens. As Marta Macias, president of the Forgender Seal Association, points out: ‘The DIGECP certification process strengthens the image of city councils as administrations committed to equality and women’s rights’.

In addition, the project aims to establish a network of municipalities for gender equality and responsible use of time, encouraging the exchange of best practices and collaborative learning.
An awareness campaign will be launched in the coming months, alongside information sessions on the Distinction. Similarly, two editions of the Forum of Certified Municipalities will be held in 2025 and 2026, providing a platform for dialogue and the sharing of experiences on gender equality in municipal management. Key issues such as the gender gap in care, the recognition of care work and strategies to dismantle gender stereotypes will be addressed.
