In the latest annual report of EIGE, the European Institute for Gender Equality, Spain is in a favorable position in the Domain of time Index compared to many of its European partners. The higher it is, the more equality between men and women there is in the time spent for caregiving, household chores or social activities.
Spain is fifth in the General Index (74.1 vs 65.0 of the European average), fourth in the Index of domestic tasks and care (68.9 vs 57.1 of the EU as a whole) and seventh in terms of the Index of social activities (79.6 vs 74.1). Denmark is the European benchmark in the first two categories, while Luxembourg is the leader in terms of equality in leisure activities.
Despite Spain’s good data compared to the European average, it should be remembered that there is still a lot of work to be done to move towards full and effective gender equality. For this reason, at DIGECP we are committed to working with municipalities and other entities to achieve real equality at the local level.
We call on you to encourage more City Councils to join the network of municipalities in Spain committed to Equality in their local policies.
